I didn't know that seeing a little boy riding a bike would bring me so much happiness. As some of you know, Nichael has hypotonia, which is low muscle tone. He can do all of the things a little boy can do, but just a little slower, always a little behind. I knew that the day would come when he would be able to pedal, but I always had that little desire inside of me hoping that it would happen soon. When you have a child who has some difficulties, I think that desire kinda of doubles.
I can't remember how many times I would go outside and try to teach Nichael to ride his tricycle. Up until two months ago, he couldn't even pedal the tricycle. Since he turned two I tried to teach him how to put his feet up, push...then I would do the motion for him and push his legs, but he didn't seem to have enough strength to do it by himself. This winter I decided that we should leave one of his tricycles inside, just so he could practice a little more. One day in our kitchen, there he was, pedaling. I was sooo excited, but could not wait until he would try the bike. So a few days later we got the bike out just to see if he would give it a try, but he didn't like it, didn't want to try, didn't seem to be quite ready. So we once again we stored the bike. The other day we were at Walmart and Tim sat him on a bike....I could not believe that I saw my little boy pedaling. He was so cute riding it around the aisles, taking it slow and making some turns. As soon as he got home we gave him his bike and we spend most of the night admiring and taking pictures. Some of you might think it's an exaggeration, but if you know this little boy, you know that every step is a reason to celebrate!!
Congrats Nichael!! We love you!!
So fun! riding my bike was one of my favorite things to do as a kid! Congrats Nichael ;) But I don't think I rode until like 6 years old so he's doing great! ;)
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be doing pretty good. But I can`t stop looking at his face. His smile is what chatches my attention. He is smiling in each picture!
ReplyDeleteHe is a beautiful boy and I am so happy for this accomplishment. Lucas hasn`t wanted to ride his and he says it`s hard to pedal, so he`s still on a tricycle. I just like how Nichael is having a blast riding inside the house.
Good Job Buddy!
